1. About
Showdown Scorecard is a browser-based scorekeeping and match tracking app for Showdown. It is built with HTML and JavaScript, developed with the help of Claude AI, and uses a Supabase PostgreSQL database as its backend. An internet connection is required because match data is stored in the database. The database structure is simple, so the app can be ported to another database if needed.
Scorecard is free to use. Tournament Mode may require payment in the future.
Features
- Runs entirely in the browser – no app installation needed
- Ready-made match templates for practice and tournament matches
- Each template defines sets, points to win, required point difference, serves and timeouts
- Follows the 2026 IBSA Showdown rules
- Points, penalties, warnings, re-serves and forfeits
- Automatic serve rotation, side changes and timeout tracking
- Private and public (tracked) matches
- Full match statistics and event log
- Offline queue – events are saved even if the connection drops briefly
- Live Tracker – a live feed for spectators, with tournament filter, details and event log for each match
- Screen reader / text-to-speech commentary of live matches
- Streaming overlay for OBS and similar software, showing up to 4 tables (subject to change). Updates in near real time. Tested with long names at 1080p.
- Match recovery – as long as the browser cache is not cleared, you can resume your last match directly from the front page
Tournament Mode
- Connects to the Scores Manager tournament manager (alpha). Pick tournament matches from a list (your account must be an owner or manager of the tournament).
- Referee code option for referees who don't have manager access
- Scores are saved to Scores Manager automatically when a manager account is used. Matches scored with a referee code require manual approval.
With an account
- Personal match history
- Non-tracked matches are kept for 30 days; tracked matches are currently kept indefinitely (this may change)
- Match report download: text report (.txt) and event log spreadsheet (.csv)
- Access to Tournament Mode
Compatibility
Works in modern browsers. Tested on a 6.5" smartphone in portrait orientation.
Known limitations
- Portrait orientation only
- No tournament filter for the streaming overlay yet
- No team matches
- No table number or name for matches
- No support for a second referee
2. Main menu
The front page has three main options and an account login:
- New Match – opens the match setup page.
- Live Tracker – Full – opens the visual match tracker.
- Live Tracker – Simple – opens a simplified list version of the match tracker.
- Sign in – sign in with email and password for match history and Tournament Mode, or with a referee passcode.
3. Account features
A user account gives you saved match history and access to Tournament Mode. Creating an account is free, and only an email address is required. You may also add your name and organization, which speeds up the manual account approval. Registration and approval are explained in Account help.
Data retention
- Without an account: non-tracked matches are kept for 7 days (a report can be requested by email), tracked matches for 30 days.
- With an account: non-tracked matches are kept for 30 days. Tracked matches are not removed unless you request it.
Signed-in users can view their own matches in the Tracker. An account also lets you create and download match reports for any tracked match and for your own non-tracked matches.
An account can access tournament matches if it is an owner or manager of the tournament. See 5. Tournament Mode.
4. Match setup
Anyone can create matches that follow the 2026 IBSA Showdown rules. There are predefined templates for the most common 1v1 match types, as well as several practice formats common in Finland. Match events are saved to the database, which makes statistics, a play-by-play log and the live feed possible. All tracked matches are public. Retention times are listed under 3. Account features.
Basic options
To create a new match, select New Match from the main menu, or start a new one after finishing the previous match.
- Player names. Enter Home (cyan) first, then Away (yellow). By default Home is on the referee's left and Away on the right. If players swap sides or start on different sides, you can correct this in the scoring view.
- Match type. Choose a template from the dropdown. The templates cover the most common tournament matches and Finnish practice formats. Selecting a template shows its key features – for example, Single BO3 has 3 sets of 11 points with timeouts, and players change sides at 6 points in the 3rd set, while Practice 11p has no timeouts and no side changes. New match types can be requested – see Contact.
- First serve. Choose who serves first. This can also be changed in the scoring view.
- Track match. Enabling tracking makes the match public and viewable on the Live Tracker page.
More options
Select More Options to add extra details: each player's team (club) and coach, and the referee's name.
Live tracking
Tracking can be enabled for any match. A tracked match is public and can be followed on the Live Tracker page. Tracking also extends retention: 30 days without an account, and permanent with an account.
5. Tournament Mode
Tournament Mode is available to registered users who are an owner or manager of a tournament in Scores Manager. Referees can also access it with a passcode, which must first be set up in Scores Manager. Tournament Mode lists the available matches and fills in the match details, such as player names, clubs and match type.
Tournament matches are tracked by default, which means they appear publicly on the Live Tracker page and can be filtered by tournament. See 7. Live Tracker.
Streaming overlay
A streaming overlay slot can be selected for the match. There are 4 slots, and each slot has its own web page that can be added to streaming software such as OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). Score updates on the overlay are almost instant. The overlay is tested with long names at 1920 pixels wide. When a match ends, it stays on the overlay for 5 minutes or until the next match is assigned to that slot.
Overlay address format:
https://www.showdown-scores.eu/scorecard/obs_banner.html?tour=<tournament id>&stream=<slot number>
For your own (non-tournament) matches, use user=<user id> instead of tour=<tournament id>. The ready-made link is shown in the Live Tracker list, during match setup, and in the Details tab during a match.
6. Scoring
The scoring view opens when the match starts. Home and Away are shown in their accent colors – by default Home on the left and Away on the right. To change sides or to change the serving player manually, select Swap Sides, which offers both options.
Screen layout
- Player names are at the top, with coaches below them.
- Set wins are shown as smaller numbers under the player names.
- The large numbers in the middle are the current set score.
- Below the score are the serve indicators: an arrow shows who is serving, and dots show the 1st and 2nd serve.
Below the scores are three tabs: Actions (scoring), Details (match settings and statistics) and Log (past actions).
Actions tab – Simple mode
Actions are grouped and colored by side, Home and Away. Simple mode offers a reduced set of buttons.
- Goal – +2 points to the player on that side.
- Fault – +1 point to the opponent.
- Warning – the first warning is recorded and the button lights up. A second warning gives the opponent +2 points.
- Penalty – opens a menu with two options:
- Penalty +2p gives the opponent +2 points (used, for example, when a player touches their mask).
- Forfeit awards the match to the opponent. The forfeiting player keeps their current set score.
- Timeout – marks that player's timeout as used.
- Undo – reverses the previous action. If the action affected serves, they are also restored.
- More options – end the set or match immediately, or call a general timeout (e.g. a referee or technical timeout).
Points awarded are also shown on the buttons. Some actions ask for confirmation.
Actions tab – Referee mode
Referee mode adds detail that improves the match statistics, the log and the Live Tracker:
- Fault opens a menu to choose the reason for the fault.
- Warning opens a menu to choose the reason for the warning.
- Penalty offers more options in both the Penalty and Forfeit categories.
- Re-Serve is an extra button for recording re-serves with a reason, such as Dead Ball or Let.
All reasons and their points are listed on the Point categories and reasons page.
Details tab
Choose between Simple and Referee mode for the Actions tab. Below that are the player details, including club and coach, a set-by-set breakdown of the score and scoring categories, and the match type details.
Log tab
Shows every action recorded during the match. Undoing an action in the Actions tab also removes it from the log.
7. Live Tracker
The Live Tracker shows all tracked matches with live updates. The list can be filtered by tournament or searched by player name. The filter is saved in your browser and stays active until you change it.
There are two views:
- Full – a more visual layout.
- Simple – a plain list, better suited for screen readers and small screens.
Both views show the current set and set score, with links to the match details and the Audio Feed.
Active matches are shown at the top, followed by all other matches from newest to oldest. Scores update as the match progresses, and new matches appear automatically – no page refresh needed.
8. Match Details
The Match Details page shows more information about a match and updates live while the match is in progress.
- Score. For a finished match, the final set result. For a live match, also the current set score.
- Set details. Collapsed by default. When opened, shows each set's final score with the winner highlighted. During a live match, the current set is highlighted in green and open. Sets do not collapse again when they end.
- Match log. Lists the match events. The level of detail depends on the scoring mode – Simple mode records less than Referee mode. The log is shown newest first by default; use the toggle above it to change the order.
- Match details and statistics.
- Download (signed-in users only) – a text report with statistics and the match log (.txt), or the raw database export (.csv).
9. Audio Feed
The Audio Feed is a screen-reader version of the Match Details page. It shows the match score (current or final), set scores and match details, and presents the match log as spoken commentary, like a sports broadcast.
- Choose between built-in text-to-speech and your own screen reader.
- Controls let you adjust speed and move forwards and backwards in the log. The default speed is normal speaking speed.
- For completed matches, events are read one by one.
- For live matches, events are read as they happen. If a new event arrives while reading is in progress, the current reading continues and the new event follows – nothing is skipped.
The Audio Feed is currently available in English only. A Finnish translation is coming; other languages can be added on request with translation help.
